Auxiliary members are dedicated to serving as ambassadors in the community and promoting major fundraisers to benefit the programs of The Ability Center. One focus of the Auxiliary is to support the Community Living Program. This role assists ACT in moving people out of nursing homes. Through the Auxiliary’s “Bare Necessities," the Auxiliary takes a hands-on approach in securing soft merchandise used in setting up living accommodations.

In addition, the Auxiliary collaborates with The Ability Center to provide college scholarships for students with disabilities.

The Auxiliary to The Ability Center members are dedicated ambassadors for our mission and organizers of major fundraisers for our agency. Organized in 1936 and reestablished in 1984, the Auxiliary hosts an annual Style Show raising funds for initiatives supporting people with disabilities.

Proceeds benefit The Ability Center’s programs including Assistance Dogs for Achieving Independence (ADAI), Home Accessibility, Next Steps Summer Program, and college scholarship initiative. Auxiliary members also host luncheons throughout the year to connect with like-minded people, listen to informative presentations, and share ideas on how to make Toledo more disability friendly.
