Jimmy Russell is the Disability Rights Advocate for Housing and Transportation at The Ability Center. He is originally from Delaware, Ohio, but he moved to Toledo to attend the University of Toledo (UT) after a brief stint at the College of Wooster. He graduated from The University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Art in Political Science with a Minor in Communication in 2019. During his time at UT, he served as both Student Body President and then later the Station Manager of the college’s radio station. It was at UT that Jimmy discovered his passion for working with, and on behalf of, the disability community.
Jimmy is passionate about advocating for policies that will increase the level of independence and the autonomy of people with disabilities. He believes that everyone should be able to live their lives freely and within the community. He firmly believes that collaborative advocacy and integrated programming is the key to systemic change that will improve the lives of all people.
