The Assistive Technology Program is designed to temporarily equip youth and adults with disabilities assistive technology for short term accommodation purposes, trial use, evaluation, to make an informed purchase, or participate in virtual programming offered by The Ability Center and other community organizations. Individuals will work with staff to develop independent living goals which can be met with the help of assistive technology.
Switch adapted toys and leisure items are also available for loan through a grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. Independent play, leisure activities, and social participation are the primary goals of the adaptive toy selection. The Ability Center will continue to expand this program through funds from donations, grants, and collaboration with organizations.
"Thanks to The Ability Center, he was able to borrow an iPad to aid him in completing his schoolwork. Before getting the help, he was struggling to complete his schoolwork on the chrome book. With the iPad, he is able to navigate it a lot easier and it’s less frustrating for him. This has been an extreme help and we are very grateful to be a part of The Ability center community!” Andrea Greener, mother to Ricky.
