Maumee City Council is set to vote June 15 on whether to give voters the option to expand public transit county-wide in November. Corporate leaders, elected officials, and citizen groups have rallied around the new vision for TARTA led by their new Executive Director, Kim Dunham. Business development groups, educational institutions, and healthcare systems all understand a community cannot truly thrive without an efficient, sustainable, public transit system. For individuals with disabilities, seniors, and those who don’t drive, public transportation is the key to independence and opportunity.
New leadership at TARTA has set forth plans for a new way and a better day for public transportation across Lucas County. Council members in Sylvania, Sylvania Township, Waterville, Ottawa Hills, Rossford, and Toledo have overcome years of skepticism about TARTA, and have voted to give taxpayers the final say in how to fund TARTA. The future of public transportation in our region is now in the hands of Maumee City Council.
