The Outreach and Education department works to educate individuals with disabilities and their communities on the benefits of independent living. Staff members achieve this through providing resources and personnel for area information fairs and other special events, including disability awareness trainings.

Disability can happen to anyone at any time. It is essential that community members understand the options and resources available to them. If you have an upcoming event and would like to include The Ability Center, please contact Amy Kerchevall, Events Coordinator at (419) 885-5733.

Community Activities

Disability Awareness Training – a periodic training that makes individuals aware of functioning with a disability.

The Program
As a service to the community, The Ability Center of Greater Toledo offers the very popular Disability Awareness Training Program to area businesses, schools and organizations. There is no charge to attend the event. The goal of Disability Awareness Training is to help organizations better understand people living with disabilities; to feel comfortable interacting and communicating with people with different abilities.

The Numbers
Nearly 60 million Americans, one in five, live with some sort a disability and as the population ages this number continues to grow. This means that your organization, and the people who are a part of it, will undoubtedly need to feel comfortable communicating with people with disabilities – as customers, as employees, as board members and business associates. Is your organization ready?
