Building Ramps to Independence Celebrates the Freedom to Live Independently
For Immediate Release - April 26, 2006
The Ability Center of Greater Toledo and 125 invited guests will celebrate "Building Ramps to Independence" on Thursday, April 27, 2006 from 5:00 to 6:15 PM at The Pinnacle in Maumee. The event focuses on the freedom to live independently in one's own home given to individuals with disabilities via The Center's Ramp Building Program. Over the years, the program has completed hundreds of ramp construction and home modification projects for persons with physical disabilities. In the last two years alone The Center's in-house Ramp Building Crew has constructed more than 55 ramps, making Independent Living a reality for men, women and children in Northwest Ohio.
The celebration will be attended by ramp recipients (all of whom received their ramps at no cost to themselves - The Ability Center writes grants to fund the building process), ramp building volunteers, community leaders, Ability Center staff and Board of Trustees, and members of the business and governmental communities, and representatives of the Toledo Area Community Credit Union. The event will include an eight-minute video featuring the personal stories of ramp recipients on life with and without a ramp and how their ramps have given them independence in every day life.
