The Program:

For over four decades, Camp Cricket has been a day program designed for children with and without disabilities between the ages of 5-14. It is offered in two two-week sessions: one for Children from 5 through 9, and one for young people from 10 through 14.

At Camp Cricket, our experienced staff creates an atmosphere in which social acceptance, positive interactions, and real friendships can develop. We recognize the rights of all campers to access everything that our camp has to offer and provide adaptations that allow each to not only participate, but get the most out of their camp experience.

Camp is a time for fun, but it’s also a time to interact and make new friends; friends with diverse backgrounds and ability levels.

Camp Cricket is held at The Ability Center, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm. Programs focus on building self-esteem, creating friendships, teamwork, participating in leisure activities and using creative expression. There will be one counselor for every 3 to 4 campers.

Throughout the camp session, campers are involved in the community as they participate in swimming, fieldtrips, cookouts, sports and craft activities.

We also have a camp session for youth from 15 through 22. Like Camp Cricket, it is geared toward working and learning in an inclusive environment and advocating for independent living. However, it is different in the sense that it focuses on work and volunteer opportunities, as well as building independent living skills. In the past, the group has volunteered at the Mud Hens games and Toledo Metroparks, and held car washes. While at the Center the young adults work on social skills, cooking, and other important independent living activities.

Please see the application for camp session dates.

The 2010 Camp Brochure will be ready and downloadable here by mid-February.
