Auxiliary to The Ability Center
The purpose of the Auxiliary to The Ability Center of Greater Toledo is to serve as ambassadors in the community and promote major fundraising events that benefit programs of The Ability Center. One of the primary programs of ACT is Nursing Home Transition. As contributors to the Nursing Home Transitions Program, the Auxiliary plays a pivotal role in assisting ACT in moving persons out of nursing homes. The Auxiliary also takes a hands-on approach in securing soft merchandise used in setting up living accommodations. This program, named Bare Necessities provides bedding and towels to these individuals as well. In addition, there is a Scholarship Fund to support students with disabilities in obtaining a college education.

The Auxiliary, which was organized in 1936, was re-established in 1984. The major fund raising event takes place in the fall, an annual Style Show. Proceeds from this annual event are used by The Ability Center to support the Nursing Home Transitions Program, Children’s Holiday Party and The Scholarship Fund. The Auxiliary also supports the Equipment Loan Program, Portable Ramps, Next Steps Summer Program, and Assistance Dogs for Achieving Independence. In addition to the style show, the Auxiliary schedules three luncheon meetings with guest speakers, our closing luncheon, and special events.
