Dan Wilkins, Director of Public Relations and Community Partnerships
Originally from Michigan, except for a stint in the US Air Force, I have lived in the Toledo area since 1968. I became aware of Disability Culture and issues important to living with a disability after a 1980 car accident resulted in my becoming a chair-user.
I’ve been associated in various capacities with The Ability Center since my first ramp was built by Otto in 1981, including a three-year run as Recreation Integration Coordinator and nine years as a Board Trustee.
I am a 1987 graduate of Lourdes College, in Sylvania, and am slowly pursuing my Masters in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Disability Studies at U Toledo.
For twenty years I have traveled the world speaking on issues important to Disability Rights and Building Inclusive Communities. Because I believe so strongly in the Independent Living Philosophy and its foundation in an equitable, inclusive world, I am passionate about The Ability Center’s Mission, Vision and Potential to make a difference in northwest Ohio and beyond.
My job at ACT includes being one of its many cheerleaders: sharing its story and passion, what it has to offer its community and constituents, and building community partnerships wherever and whenever possible.
