Angie Hiser
INFORMATION AND REFERRAL DEPARTMENT
Angie Hiser, Director of Information and Referral
I was born and raised in Toledo and worked as a nursing assistant for Toledo Hospital’s Caring Services for twelve years. After this, I opened my own home health care business called “Angie’s Angels”. I did this for several years, thoroughly enjoying every day. It was my only connection with disability until 1998 when I was thirty-two weeks pregnant with my fourth child. I developed Pancreatitis, went into a coma for 14 days, during which my daughter was born. I woke to find I had lost my vision.
Over the next year I had to relearn how to do everything. It’s now been eleven years and my life has come full circle. As the Director of Information and Referral at the center, I am able to assist many people on a daily basis.
I do not let my disability control me. I have come to understand my blindness has become a gift, allowing me to see in a whole new way; with my whole body, especially my heart.
