Camp and Ramps

Camp Cricket

Is the Center’s highly successful summer day camp for children with, and without, disabilities.  For more than 50 years the Center’s experienced staff have provided well-designed, fun camp activities that ensure that campers have a positive experience while building self-esteem and developing life-long social and independent living skills.

Home Accessibility - Ramps

Since 1997, The Ability Center has completed over 400 home accessibility projects (e.g. wheelchair ramps and bathroom modifications) using government grants totaling more than $1.5 million. These ramps prevent homelessness, institutionalization, and dislocation of individuals with disabilities who have no available resources to make access modifications necessary to continue living in their homes. The Center's experienced, in-house Ramp Building Crew works closely with the ramp recipient, local government officials and (when appropriate) historical preservation organizations to design and construct a ramp that not only meets an individual's needs, but also meets all local building standards.

If a person with a disability qualifies for a ramp based on income and geographical criteria, the ramp will be constructed at no charge to them. All costs are covered by the government grants.

While most ramps are constructed by The Center's Ramp Building Crew, individuals or groups of volunteers are welcome.
