Toledo Area Community Credit Union's Ability Loans
For Immediate Release - May 30, 2006
Sylvania, Ohio - Toledo Area Community Credit Union, Sylvania, Ohio, is proud to introduce their Ability Loan product.
In partnership with The Ability Center of Greater Toledo, TACCU has developed affordable financing for the purchase of items that maximize the independence of persons with disabilities.
The Ability Loan program is available to members with disabilities (and parents or guardians of persons with disabilities) for a variety of needs such as mobility equipment (i.e. scooter, wheelchairs), vehicle modifications (i.e. lift equipment, hand controls), home ramps and much more. With longer loan terms and discounted interest rates, this program will help make these items more available to those in need. "We are excited to be able to help members in our community with disabilities to live more active and independent lives. We hope this program will make these types of equipment more affordable and within reach for those who need it" says Mr. Ron Patton, Senior Vice President of Lending.
As part of this partnership, TACCU employees participated in a "Disability Awareness Training" program provided by The Ability Center of Greater Toledo. The training program put the employees through a number of hands on exercises to help the staff better understand the frustrations and difficulties persons with disabilities face in day to day activities. The Ability Loan program was launched at the "Building Ramps to Independence" celebration on Thursday, April 27, 2006. The event celebrated The Ability Center's Ramp Program building its 100th ramp since the in-house ramp program was established just two years ago. The celebration was attended by ramp recipients (all of whom received their ramps at no cost to themselves - The Ability Center writes grants to fund the building process), ramp building volunteers, community leaders, Ability Center staff and Board of Trustees, and members of the business and governmental communities.
